A Million Chicks

Off with my head,

I'm throwing in the towel

A phoenix, a falcon,

why even an owl

Nothing ever seems fair

when you're a fowl

Oh to be regal

and soar like an eagle

Turns out I'm less respected

than seagull

Treating chicks like this

cannot be legal

I was born a chicken,

but in my heart dwells a hawk

I screech like a red tail;

all I hear is balk, balk, balk!

And if you're a rooster,

then you are also a cock

I could get out of this coop,

but why should I try

I'm domesticated with wing

and I can't even fly

I'm fat and pathetic

and oh so ready to die

So this is my final crow,

our last chance to be heard

We used to know freedom,

we were a proud, jungle bird

Now I'm a feathered sardine

and our life is absurd
