My Philosophy

I rarely read the papers

and never watch the news

For time and again

it only gives me the blues

Why is it I should be aware

of what everyone else “knows”?

I'm interested in how ants do it,

and how fungus grows

You see, living this way

allows me more time to rest

For I've learned that life

needn't be an ongoing test

It's great to be part of the wave,

without seeking the crest

But you think I live in a shell—

fill me in, be my guest

Really, there's a war, kids are starving,

and the world's getting hot

What about how a worm feels

or the viscosity of snot?

You think I'm belittling education…

trust me, I'm not

Though I've never really utilized

half the shit I was taught

It's floods on the rise, politicians,

and a new killer bee

Or crime, rape, murder,

and millennium-strain HIV

Can you explain concisely

how all this benefits me?

Debate it all night,

I'll be out on the porch having tea
